In 2000, or thereabouts, I found myself visiting a friend who had just moved to New York, in one of those wonderful lofts in the district of Soho. Filippo is passionate for contemporary art and I expected to find his home decorated with canvases and sculptures worthy of his fame as a collector. Instead, as soon as I set foot in his open space, I was surprised: among the wide skylights in reinforced concrete and glass tiles, through which filtered an unusual light that afternoon, he had placed an enormous Plexiglas display case. Inside, was a bike: yep, it had two wheels and the rest, but it was different from all others I had seen till then. It seemed to have come from the future, aerodynamic and tapered like a racing car; unique in style. It filled the wall better than any painting, on its own: it was a work of art more than a simple bike! Filippo explained that it was a limited edition designed for the Danish brand Biomega by Marc Newson, a designer exhibited even in the MoMa in New York. He even suggested I bought one as an investment, and I must admit that I still regret not paying attention. – by Amedeo.
